This major explores Asia’s significance in contemporary world politics and Hong Kong’s strategic positions within China, Asia and the world. It aims to develop students’ knowledge of the socio-political, economic and cultural changes occurring in Asian countries and to situate them in the broader international context. Students will learn to contemplate Asia's increasingly significant roles in world affairs and examine these roles with both theoretical and practical analytical tools. Through its interdisciplinary curriculum and social research training, the major seeks to equip students with analytical skills that are of great value to organisations in different administrative and economic sectors throughout Hong Kong, Asia and beyond. In addition, it enhances students’ critical reasoning and problem-solving skills, and will deepen their regional and global perspectives.

Asian and International Studies explores Asia’s place in the contemporary world and Hong Kong’s strategic positioning in the region and the world. It aims to develop students’ knowledge of socio-political, economic, and cultural processes of change occurring in the countries of Asia and to situate them in the broader international context, reflecting the increasing significance of Asia in world affairs. Through its interdisciplinary curriculum and training in social research, the major seeks to equip students with analytic skills of value to organizations in diverse economic sectors in Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond. The programme is taught by faculties from diverse disciplines of sociology, anthropology, and political science. It will enhance students’ skills in critical reasoning and problem-solving, and will extend and deepen their regional and global perspectives. Upon graduation, students are well equipped for both public and private sectors to pursue careers in a variety of fields, including business, project-planning and management, public relations, politics, research and education, mass media, politics, social enterprises, as well as non-governmental and community organizations.

Graduates from AIS have gotten jobs in teaching positions at all levels, as well as jobs in the private sector, such as editors, social workers, non-governmental organization members, reporters, journalists, public-relations personnel, etc.
