Enables students to learn about the basis for human disease, its detection and the range of scientific endeavours to treat disease and improve health.

As the complexity of healthcare increases there will be a greater need for medical science graduates to support the continuum of health service delivery from community-based projects to highly specialized laboratories.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Apply broad and coherent medical science knowledge to a range of theoretical, practical and diagnostic contexts.
  • Communicate medical science knowledge and ideas clearly, coherently and with independence.
  • Critically analyze, interpret and synthesize complex medical and health science information.
  • Demonstrate ethical judgment and global perspectives with respect for cultural diversity, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competence.
  • Demonstrate initiative and independent judgement to anticipate medical science challenges and generate sustainable solutions.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for personal and professional scholarship.
  • Use digital and laboratory technologies to access, evaluate and synthesize medical science information from diverse sources.
  • Work collaboratively and demonstrate professionalism in the application of knowledge and skills.

Career opportunities

This course is an entry pathway to many highly sought-after careers such as medicine and other health professions, through postgraduate study. The course will also provide a pathway for graduates to enter careers in medical research and development, the health industry, and education.

Applicants must have National College Entrance Exam (Gao Kao) OR Successful completion of one year of tertiary study Standard Entry - A minimum of 65.6% of the overall score, Higher Entry - A minimum of 70% of the overall score. Minimum requirements for secondary school results can change, depending on the country where you completed secondary study. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.
