一、學(xué)生先問(wèn)這里是不是有視頻播放,職工說(shuō)是,播放關(guān)于爬山的內(nèi)容,學(xué)生表示自己對(duì)在學(xué)生中心播放電影很感興趣,她是地球科學(xué)社的成員,想在這里播放有關(guān)水資源的公益視頻。她需要:先填表,馬上填或者在線填,會(huì)有一位老師跟她聯(lián)系。對(duì)于這些活動(dòng),學(xué)校是禁止收費(fèi)的,但是他們可以用學(xué)校提供的funding,最后學(xué)生問(wèn)哪里有drinking fountain,職工說(shuō)在xx樓旁邊。
二、學(xué)生找教授咨詢?nèi)绾螌懺?shī)給自己下個(gè)月結(jié)婚的妹妹,但是教授說(shuō)她的課是分析特定社會(huì)下的詩(shī)和寫作手法,學(xué)生舉例子,就像他會(huì)分析畫,但是不代表自己能畫的很好,教授建議他下學(xué)期去上寫作課或者現(xiàn)在參加寫作社團(tuán)。

三、學(xué)生來(lái)問(wèn)起professor課堂上提到的series novels,就是英國(guó)維多利亞時(shí)代在報(bào)刊上連載的小說(shuō)。Professor先談到了狄更斯,說(shuō)他很擅長(zhǎng)寫這類,絕大多數(shù)都是連載的,而且還有一次寫很多本的能力。然后問(wèn)到學(xué)生問(wèn)這個(gè)的目的是啥,學(xué)生說(shuō)是想寫paper,把連載和今天流行的電視短劇結(jié)合到一起。Professor于是告訴他這些series的好處:1.會(huì)使用open-ended,建立起和readers之間的關(guān)系;2.financially accepted by readers,更多人會(huì)付得起連載的費(fèi)用。
四、主要談到coral reef如何受到lionfish的影響。先介紹這種魚,然后說(shuō)它是入侵物種,原因可能是之前作為寵物魚,但是被放到了Pacific ocean。因?yàn)樗鼤?huì)吃很多當(dāng)?shù)氐男◆~,而這些小魚本來(lái)會(huì)吃珊瑚上的寄生蟲和algae。然后說(shuō)如何搞定lionfish:1.放shark來(lái)吃2.應(yīng)急小組處理掉 3.鼓勵(lì)人們消費(fèi),吃掉它。Professor認(rèn)為第二個(gè)大范圍解決不了問(wèn)題;第三個(gè)值得鼓勵(lì)。
五、先說(shuō)CO2是大家都公認(rèn)的greenhouse gas。但是事實(shí)上methane天然氣也是一種,而且level很高。天然氣如何進(jìn)入大氣的呢?1. nonbiologic way2. Underground3. biogenic methane.第3種是dead plants釋放的。提到在剛果、亞馬遜的rainforest中有很多methane產(chǎn)生,1.死植物decay;2.活著的植物也釋放大量methane,甚至是dead plants的3倍。目前不知道是從哪來(lái)的,也不是像媒體報(bào)道那樣現(xiàn)在砍掉樹就能解決問(wèn)題。但是professor強(qiáng)調(diào)reforestation中要考慮森林對(duì)環(huán)境的影響。
