Our History program transcends borders. Rather than concentrating on specific countries, we widen the lens to look at the broader regions to which they belong. Similarly, our program also crosses disciplines thanks to an award-winning faculty who are actively involved in many related programs in the university.

What will I learn?

Our courses span the globe and historical periods, break down national barriers, and cross disciplines. You can take courses with an emphasis on transnational history as well as dive into those that draw from our rich base in medieval, British, European, Russian, African, Middle Eastern, Atlantic World history and the history of the Americas.

Many of our courses are cross-listed with other departments in the university, including International Development Studies, Spanish and Latin American Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, European Studies, Law and Society, Canadian Studies and more.

Careers and future study:

An undergraduate study of history is an excellent starting point for a variety of careers that focus on individual skills in research, writing, and critical thinking. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in fields ranging from business to journalism. Careers possibilities include:

museum curator
archivist
journalist

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in history, public administration or business administration. Or you might pursue a professional degree in law or medicine.

Students must have completion of secondary school (Grade 12) or equivalent; A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses; A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject. English language requirement: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - 237 (computer-based) 90 (iBT) and no lower than 20 in each band; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.5 overall and no lower than 6.0 in each band; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) – 81; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 61 overall and no lower than 50 in each skill; Cambridge English: Advanced - 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band.
