What is the Course about?

Sports management and coaching is an area of study that combines the techniques of sports management and coaching with the principles of business and enterprise.

The field of sports management and coaching is changing rapidly. Professional sporting bodies require management and coaching staff to have an excellent understanding of their chosen sport, as well as strong business skills.

On completion of the course, students will have a detailed understanding of:

  • Player development
  • Coach education
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Programme planning
  • Performance analysis
  • Sport finance
  • Sport media and marketing

Course Structure

This is a four-year course and has three key content areas delivered in each year of the course:

  • Coaching and Player Development
  • Business and Management of Sport
  • Sports Science

Classes are delivered in a range of settings including pitch, classroom and gym.

This course will be of interest to those who are passionate about playing or coaching sport. It will also be of interest to someone who would like a career in the business and administration of sport. It is open to students of all abilities and not just those in an elite category.

Students must also have an IELTS of 5.5 or equivalent; TOEFL?Internet?Based Test: 79; TOEFL Computer Based Test: 213; TOEFL Paper?Based Test: 550; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 50-57; GCE O-Level English Language: Grade C; Test of Interactive English (TIE): B2+; TOEIC: 700; GCSE English: Grade C; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English: Grade C; English Test for Academic and Professional Purposes (ETAPP) B2+; Irish Leaving Certificate: Ordinary Level Grade D
