Overview

This degree enables you to complete independent research under academic supervision and submit a thesis of up to 50000 words on a topic relating to one of the Law School's areas of research expertise, including Asian law, commercial law and policy, conflict resolution, corporations law and corporate governance, criminal law and justice, family society and law, international and comparative law, global business law, labour law, lawyers and pathways to justice, legal ethics and securities regulation.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9.

Industry internships

We offer internships to Master by Research and PhD students in various disciplines.

Career outcomes

This degree will open up a range of career pathways for you, including academic research, higher education, the legal profession, law reform, politics, business and commerce, government service, and public administration. It can also serve as a pathway into a PhD.

Applicants must have an Australian Bachelor's degree with Honours at H1 or H2A level, or approved international equivalent.If you have Honours at H2B level, or equivalent, you may be considered in some instances. English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 575 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 176 with no less than 169 in any component.
