This extended Aeronautical Engineering degree has been developed to allow you to gain a broad-based knowledge of aeronautical engineering, plus the chance to specialise in modern engineering disciplines.In addition to providing engineering fundamentals, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, stress analysis, mechanics, control, and mathematical modelling and simulation, these disciplines are applied to the aircraft throughout the course, starting from the beginning of Year 1. Examples include aircraft design, aircraft performance, aircraft structures, aircraft aerodynamics and aeroengines. The course has a strong emphasis on group work and design throughout. Furthermore, in the final year each student individually undertakes (with academic supervision) a significant project to tackle a challenging engineering problem in a current research area of interest.During Year 1, the course matches theory and application within lectures and tutorials, linked together with applied studies, such as practical instruction, computing and laboratory experiments.All Aeronautical Engineering students gain experience of testing and flight procedures during a week-long flight test course, involving up to four flights, usually in a Jetstream 31 aircraft.

AAB (excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Communication and Culture and Citizenship Studies). In some circumstances we may ask applicants to achieve specific grades in certain subjects. While no specific A Level (or equivalent) subjects are required, we strongly prefer combinations drawn from traditional (academic) subjects to demonstrate a range of numerical, analytical and discursive abilities. These A Levels include: Ancient History, Biology, Classical Civilisation, Chemistry, Economics, English Language/Literature, Geography, Government and Politics, History, Languages (non-native), Law, Maths/Further Maths, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology and Statistics.
