Early childhood educators care for our youngest citizens and foster their growing sense of identity and well-being through play-based learning. Evidence abounds that the first five years of life, before most children enter the traditional elementary school system, are critical for social, emotional and brain development.

In the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum program, you learn about the unique needs of early childhood learners, with a focus on equity, social justice and advocacy. You work closely with children in childcare settings at MacEwan and in the community. Through field placements and a fourth-year internship, you connect theory to professional practice.

In this degree, you explore the pedagogy of early childhood and learn how to support children during their most critical period of development—between birth and five years of age.

You build a deep understanding of Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework and experience curriculum in action as you work closely with children and educators at ELM, the university’s on-site early learning and child care centre.

To play a role in helping develop young minds is an awesome responsibility and a wonderful opportunity. From early literacy skills to socialization and learning through play, the early learning professional is actively involved in preparing pre-school children for the learning journey to come.

The flexible design of the Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies allows you to exit the program with a diploma in Early Learning and Child Care after successful completion of the first two years. Your courses cover child development, curriculum, communications, working with families and specialized programming.

Other English Language Requirements accepted: P-TOEFL (paper based) score of 580; PTE Academic with a minimum overall score of 59 and a minimum score of 56 in each band. Minimum overall band score of 70 and a minimum score of 60 in each band; An O-level, GSCE or IGCSE English Language or Literature course of B (minimum grade)is required.
