Accounting isn't just for accountants.

Today's business leaders also need core skills in accounting.

They need to be able to make sense of financial reports and make decisions based on the numbers. Study accounting with MIT and you will open the door to job opportunities in business management.

If you want to become a Chartered Accountant, you should study the CAANZ Accounting pathway instead.

Fast-track your programme of study to graduate sooner

Your work experience or previous tertiary study may count towards achieving your qualification. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme is designed for those who already have the on-the-job skills and knowledge, but want to take their career to the next level with a qualification.

Career opportunities

A Major in accounting will give you a strong grounding for a variety of roles within businesses. Accounting is also integral to almost all management positions within any company. If you wish to become a Chartered Accountant, you should pursue the CAANZ Accounting pathway instead.

Programme structure

When planning your degree, remember that not all courses are available each quarter. You must check the programme structure below, the prerequisites, electives and availability of your chosen courses in advance.

You will need to complete 13 compulsory courses, five elective courses and the courses from your chosen major (360 credits):

Elective courses

In addition, for each major you must select five other elective courses (a total of 75 credits) from the list. If you are doing a double major you will not be able to take elective courses, you will need to take five courses from your other major and also 341.752 Industry Project (45 Credits).
