Prepare to work as an Architectural Technologist or for further study if you want to become an Architect or Interior Architect. In addition, this programme will enable you to develop your awareness of the social responsibilities of designers and technologists within the built environment.

You will have the knowledge and skills in drawing, computer-aided design (CAD), building construction and science to bring your designs to life in accordance with legislation and codes.

Qualification structure: This qualification offers two specialisation options: Architectural Technology or Interior Architecture. You will learn about architectural design theory as well as the evolution of architectural design through time. You will also learn how to communicate relevant information effectively to the various stakeholders of the industry.

Your workload: Workload is 40 hours per week, with about two thirds of that time spent in a directed learning environment. Learning activities include lectures, seminars, tutorials, Moodle discussion, audio/video analysis, site visits and/or attendance of performances and exhibitions (if available).

To enter Otago Polytechnic’s, you need to have achieved a secondary school qualification that is equivalent to New Zealand’s NCEA levels (National Certificate of Educational Achievement). Achievement of good results in the National Higher Education Entrance Examination commonly known as the “Gaokao”. Or successful completion of an Otago Polytechnic certificate programme. IELTS test: Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5; TOEFL paper based test (PBT): Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); TOEFL internet based test (IBT): Score of 60 (with a writing score of 18); Cambridge english qualifications: B2 First, or B2 First for schools, or C1 Advanced, or C2 Proficiency with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill; Pearson test of english (ACADEMIC): PTE (Academic) score of 50 with no band score lower than 42; Language Certificate: C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS and no less than Pass in each skill; OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests; Trinity ISE: ISE II with no less than distinction in any band
