What will you learn?

Arts and Culture Studies focuses on art in its various forms: fine arts, literature, music, theatre and film, as well as digital media and popular culture. Our approach is interdisciplinary, comparative and multi-medial: you will not only analyse art forms in and by themselves, but will also learn to compare and contrast them. Students are invited to explore art and culture from a number of theoretical, historical, political and social perspectives, incorporating European, North American and global views on culture. You will learn to discern differences between art forms, and between contemporary and historical valuations of art, as well as how to apply theoretical concepts to analyse cultural phenomena. During the programme you're stimulated to develop your own well-founded vision on art and (popular) culture.

International educational qualifications: If you have a non-Dutch Secondary School degree, your previous education will be assessed by the Admissions Officer of the Faculty of Science to determine whether it is of sufficient level. If the level is sufficient, then you could be directly admissible or additional conditions may apply (such as taking an English or Mathematics test). For accepted English tests, have a look at the language requirements. For Computing Science, you can prove your English language proficiency by obtaining one of the following diplomas: A Dutch VWO diploma; An International Baccalaureate Diploma (diploma programme), A European Baccalaureate Diploma, with English Language 2 or English Language 1, GCE A-Levels, A diploma equivalent to, or higher than the Dutch VWO diploma, with English as the only language of instruction, obtained at an institution in an EU/EEA member state, Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America. IELTS Academic, overall-score 6.5, sub-scores 6.0, TOEFL iBT, overall-score 90, sub-scores 20, Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced (CAE) or C2 Proficiency (CPE), scores C.
