Are you fascinated by the processes that are shaping our contemporary world? The Arts stream at UBC Vantage College includes courses in geography, political science, psychology, research, and writing to give you a solid foundation of knowledge in the arts and to strengthen your communication skills.

The Vantage One program at UBC Vantage College offers an 11-month program taught by UBC faculty for first-year international students who require additional academic English instruction as they begin their UBC degree. This program is only open to international students (not Canadian citizens or permanent residents).

The Vantage One Arts stream explores processes that are shaping the contemporary world – globalization, urbanization, mobility, new forms of civil and political action – in the context of themes of environmental sustainability and personal responsibility in engagement with these processes. Coursework includes geography, political science, psychology, research, and writing.

Through the program, students will complete the full requirements of the first year an Arts degree program, integrated with academic English instruction. Upon successful completion of the Vantage One program, students will be able to transition into their second year at UBC.

Applicants must have Gaokao examinations results provided by CQV If you are not writing the Gaokao, you must submit one of the following standardized examination results: SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement exam results, A Levels, or International Baccalaureate Certificates. Equivalent Entry: Huikao or Academic proficiency test results provided by China Qualifications Verification (CQV). Other English language requirements: CAE(Certificate in Advanced English ): Minimum score? of B; CAEL(Canadian Academic English Language assessment): Overall score? of 70; TOEFL Paper-based test with the TWE (Test of Written English): ): Minimum score? of 55 each for Reading, Listening, and Writing (4.0 on TWE); MELAB(Michigan English Language Assessment Battery with the MELAB Oral Interview): 85 final score with 3 in the speaking test; PTE(Pearson Test of English (Academic)): Overall score: 65, Reading: 60, Listening: 60, Writing: 60, Speaking: 60.
