Study a degree in counselling and get the qualification, skills and understanding you need to work effectively as a counsellor in various areas including community, drug and alcohol, women's health, family support, relationship counselling services, gender and sexuality and anxiety and depression. This course is accredited by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and meets this peak body's training standards. Upon graduation, you can apply for PACFA membership - earning you professional recognition at a national level. As a student you will take part in work placement and receive at least 40 hours of supervised face-to-face clinical work in the final year of study. Graduate with client experience and establish contacts to take into your career.

This counselling course will equip you with the practical skills and understanding to work with a range of client groups as a counsellor in a variety of areas. These include community counselling organisations and the health services sector. Undertake this bachelor of counselling as a gateway to a professional career or pathway into postgraduate counselling courses.

Early exit qualifications

If you leave this course after completing all Level 100 subjects, you may be eligible for the Diploma of Applied Social Science qualification.

Practical work experience

JNI focuses on experiential learning, so you gain both theoretical and practical skills during your course. This community services course incorporates 400 hours of fieldwork, which gives you the opportunity to work with real clients, so you establish contacts even before you graduate.

Year 12 or equivalent; Applicants who have completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) must have: Completed their IB Diploma, and achieved a score of at least 24 points. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Academic: Overall 6.0 (with no sub-score 5.5); Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 60 (with min 18 in writing); Cambridge English Scale Score (from 2015): 169 (with no sub-score <162); Pearson Test of English (PTE): 50 (with no sub-score <42).
