The Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding programme is designed to prepare graduates to enter the workforce with a sound background in Naval Architecture technology along with a range of practical skills ready for use on their first day of employment. The curriculum at UniKL MIMET is intended to provide students with a broad knowledge of shipbuilding engineering, to develop creativity and analytical skills through study of subjects in the areas of Mathematics, comprehensive mechanics, design theory, and interdisciplinary theories of mechanical and computerized engineering knowledge. The study of naval architecture begins in the 1st year in order to familiarize the student as early as possible with ship and shipbuilding terms, technical facets of ship analysis and design, shipyard arrangements and general methods of ship construction.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

UniKL graduates who are:

PEO 1

knowledgeable, competent, and innovative, which will contribute towards the human capital in the marine related industry;

PEO 2

effective leadership and team work skills as well as verbal, non-verbal and interpersonal communication skills to support their role in industry;

PEO 3

committed to the importance of lifelong learning and continuous improvement;

PEO 4

practice professionalism with ethics and social responsibility; and

PEO 5

capable of embarking on business and technopreneurial activities.

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

PLO 1

Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and a marine technology engineering specialization to wide practical procedures and practices in marine related activities.

PLO 2

Identify and solve broadly-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to the marine related fields.

PLO 3

Design solutions for broadly-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified need with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental consideration in marine related activities.

PLO 4

Conduct investigations of broadly-defined marine related problems; locate and search relevant codes and catalogues, conduct standard tests and measurements.

PLO 5

Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering tools to broadly-defined marine related activities, with an awareness of the limitations.

PLO 6

Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse technical teams.

PLO 7

Communicate effectively on broadly-defined marine related activities with the engineering community and with society at large, by being able to comprehend the work of others, document their own work, and give and receive clear instructions.

PLO 8

Demonstrate knowledge of the societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to marine practice.

PLO 9

Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of naval architect/engineer/marine technologist practice.

PLO 10

Understand the impact of engineering solutions in a societal context and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PLO 11

Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of management, business practices, and technopreneurial competencies.

PLO 12

Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in independent and life-long learning.

All international students must complete at least 12 years of education and obtained certificate in Higher Secondary School equivalent to ‘A’ Level for degree programmes. Senior High School Examination. English language proficiency requirements: IELTS - 5.0 or equivalent; TOEFL- 525 (PBT); 167 (CBT); 120 (IBT) and students who have attained the above test of proficiency in English are exempted from taking any English Placement Test (EPT) / English Preparatory Programs (EPP) courses.
