About Faculty

The Faculty was first established as the Division of Basic Sciences in 1972. Its objective was to offer basic science courses required by other faculties in the University. In 1975, the status of the division was upgraded to a faculty, and named the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies.

Since then the faculty has gone through several restructuring processes, including the setting up of the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Department of Computer Sciences which later were upgraded to form two new faculties, and the transfer of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology to the newly formed Faculty of Biotechnology and Bimolecular Sciences. Ever since the restructuring, the faculty has been renamed as the Faculty of Science in 2004.

Goals

To attract outstanding students and to produce knowledgeable and competitive graduates

To elevate achievements in research and innovation to international levels

To intensify community involvement for the generation and sharing of knowledge

To strengthen UPM as a centre of excellence in education, research and services in agriculture and tropical bio resources

To improve the governance and management of resources

To reinforce the Graduate School of Management’s position as the Top Business School (TBS)

One of the goals of the Department of Physics is to produce competent graduates ready for the job market or to pursue related postgraduate programmes.

The Department also offers postgraduate and postdoctoral programmes in a wide range of research areas including:

1) Applied Optics

2) Applied Radiation

3) Magnetic Materials

4) Materials Science

5) Microwave

7) Quantum Physics

Applicant who is interested in pursuing his/ her studied at UPM must fulfil the following: To have received a National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level or the equivalent of 12 years of basic education) with the grade 80% and above. or a Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00. English Language Requirements: IELTS - Minimum overall score of 6.0 for TESL/English or 5.5 for other programmes; or TOEFL - Minimum overall score of 550 for TESL/English or 500 for other programmes; or Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) - Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) - enrolled at ELS-UPM - Level 109 English or Level 107 for other programmes.
