This MSc in Civil Engineering with Industrial Practice is ideal for graduates looking to advance their careers in engineering managerial roles, manufacturing, or commercial enterprise. This two-year civil engineering master's allows graduates and engineers to update their skills and technical knowledge to serve the future demands of the construction industry. You'll discover more about civil engineering design and the management issues that arise in construction and civil engineering. You'll also improve your technical, professional and management skills through an independent project and a one-year internship with a related employer in the field.

The course is aimed at engineering and technology graduates who wish to pursue managerial roles in engineering and manufacturing. Students on this course will be able to discuss career options with organisations such as Atkins Global and the Environment Agency and review the next steps to becoming a Chartered Engineer.

The industrial placement lasts approximately one year. This is an opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and experience you've gained during the first year of the master's course plus any previous study or experience. You'll be able to engage with current industrial systems, processes and practices, which contribute to your professional development as a manager in the engineering sector.

Our Faculty Employability Team provides support and guidance. We work with a organisation that specialises in helping students to secure an industrial placement. However, it is your responsibility to secure the placement for your second year. This could be with a local or international employer in a relevant industrial sector.

For entry to our Master's programmes, you will need to have met the following: Achieving four year Bachelor with a minimum of 70% for UK 2.2 or with a minimum of 80% for UK 2.1. Students need to have an IELTS score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component. For some postgraduate taught courses, you need: IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component.
