Learn to Create Safer, Healthier Workplaces

Earn your Master of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from University of Houston-Clear Lake and learn to design, evaluate and implement methods, policies and controls that promote safer indoor and outdoor workplace environments. For your convenience, you can complete the degree entirely in person or online. With rigorous coursework and activities in simulated settings, you will learn how to anticipate, identify and avert hazards in real-life situations, including physical, chemical and biological hazards. Choose from two specialization options to narrow your focus:

These degree options are approved by the Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM), which certifies health and safety professionals. Upon graduation, you’ll be prepared to pursue further academic training in occupational health and safety towards a doctorate. You may also prepare for professional certification examinations in industrial hygiene and/or safety.

UHCL's Occupational Safety and Health M.S. focuses on the applied STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) sciences, and will equip you for careers in the government and private occupational health and safety sectors. Many of these careers have a median salary of over $75,000. Businesses along the Gulf Coast are the primary employers of health and safety professionals in the nation, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Texas Workforce Commission indicates a 20 percent growth in jobs in the region. Equipped with the knowledge and experience you'll receive with this degree at UHCL, your professional options include: Health and safety coordinator or director; Industrial hygienist; Safety engineer.

Applicants will be considered for admission to University of Houston-Clear Lake, if they have earned bachelor's degrees or higher (as applicable) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and are eligible to return to the last institution attended.?To satisfy by Test Results: Official Pearson Test of English (PTE) scores of 53 or higher, Official International English Language System (IELTS) scores of 6.0 or higher, Successful completion of ELS Level 112 - Intensive English Program, or iBT TOEFL Test of 79 or higher.
