This interdisciplinary degree combines two complementary fields to equip you for a specialist marketing career with skills in digital and print design. You’ll gain foundation knowledge in design and evidence-based marketing and learn how to apply design principles across a range of marketing activities.

You will also learn about the creative elements of advertising and how to work collaboratively with graphic designers to create high quality marketing materials.

You could apply for Vacation Research Scholarships with the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute for Marketing Science, or get the opportunity to be selected to participate in our on-campus Marketing Clinic. The Clinic provides advice to small and medium-sized businesses under the supervision of marketing experts.

What you'll learn

The degree starts with core courses in business. These will give you a solid grasp of business fundamentals such as economics, accounting and business law. Elective courses are another key part of your business degree.

In your design and marketing specialisation, you’ll focus on areas such as digital marketing, design for publication, consumer behaviour, and computer graphics and imaging for design.

  • Advertising account manager: managing client relationships; preparing creative briefs; managing the production of advertisements; managing internal and external communications
  • Brand manager: responsible for driving the growth of a brand; ensuring all aspects of a brand’s marketing and manufacturing match; creating a brand strategy and ensuring all aspects of a product or an activity align with the brand
  • Campaign manager: combining creative thinking with factual analysis to target marketing campaigns at audiences; identifying the best mediums for building brand awareness and sales
  • Marketing coordinator: promoting products or services by developing and implementing marketing and advertising campaigns; tracking and evaluating performance data; coordinating events; copywriting for a number of promotional channels
  • Marketing design specialist: understanding the role creativity and design plays in marketing, and collaborating with other marketing specialists, across advertising, print, media and digital marketing in a diverse range of sectors
  • Marketing manager: overseeing and leading a marketing team and all functions; setting strategy; managing marketing plans, budgets and resources; assigning tasks and setting targets
  • Publications coordinator: managing digital and print promotional materials; writing, formatting and maintaining content for organisational publications such as newsletters, magazines and reports
  • Visual communications manager: leading a creative team to realise the artistic vision of marketing strategies; overseeing graphic design elements for print, web and other media

Students must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 program. In order to gain entry, students require an additional year of study following their high school studies. For example, this can include successful completion of: One year of study at a recognised tertiary or higher education institution. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: Overall 6.0 (with 6.0 in Reading and Writing); TOEFL iBT score of 60 with Reading and Writing not less than 18; TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) score of 550 with TWE of 4.5; Cambridge CAE/CPE score of 169; Pearson's test of English (Academic) (PTE) score of 50 with Reading and Writing communicative scores not less than 50; CELUSA score of AE4.
