You may join this program internationally renowned for its courses in argumentation theory and political thought. Philosophy gives you a broad vision of the world and the ability to make intelligent decisions, laying the foundation for a variety of careers. You can study philosophy exclusively, or combine it with another discipline. Classes are small and full of opportunities to discuss today’s most pressing topics such as artificial intelligence, feminism, the environment and politics.

Honours option also available.

FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Appreciating the thoughts and ideas of people from other times and places; expressing and evaluating these ideas with respect to historical and modern contexts and competing philosophies
Understanding and internalizing several major philosophical tenets, figures, texts, and schools of thought
Closely evaluating competing arguments and ideas to articulate fine differences and areas of commonality
Examining and explaining beliefs, arguments, and ideas using sound logical reasoning and rationality
Building sturdy, well-supported points of view; expressing forcefully and intelligently why one’s view is preferable to competing alternatives
Identifying and isolating the distinctive qualities of arguments using clarity and reason

Sample Courses: Introduction to Western Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, Reasoning Skills, Informal Logic: Fallacy, Philosophy and Human Nature

Specialization Options: Social and Political Thought, Argumentation and Logic

All programs require successful completion of the OSS Diploma and a minimum 70% average of six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U. English Language Requirements: A minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or A minimum score of 60 on the Carleton University’s Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL); or A minimum score of 60 on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE); or A minimum overall score of 176 on the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or the Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or Successful completion of the University of Windsor's English Language Improvement Program (ELIP) (level III) with a minimum final grade of 75%; or A minimum score of 85 on the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Language Institute of the University of Michigan (MELAB); or A minimum score of 220 with a T.W.E. 4.5 on the Computer-based Test, 83 with an essay score of 20 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (T.O.E.F.L.).
