Obtain a current practicing certificate to work as a registered nurse in New Zealand.

This intensive programme comprises of three weeks of theory and includes study in ethics, regulations in New Zealand, quality assurance, cultural safety and preparation for clinical practice and a practical clinical component which runs for six weeks.

Please note this is a pathway to reactivate your existing scope of practice.

Internationally qualified nurses please note: this programme will accept internationally qualified nurses who currently hold an approved registration in a country other than New Zealand. Internationally qualified nurses require a current visa or other evidence of right to study in New Zealand, with the appropriate letter to allow entry to the clinical workplace.

Applications are accepted subject to the availability of suitable clinical placement.

Career Options

After completion of the theory and clinical components and having successfully met the Nursing Council of New Zealand's competencies for registration, you may apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand for a current practicing certificate.

Degree or higher tertiary qualification; or Level 6 or 7 Diploma and relevant work and/or life experience; or Equivalent knowledge, life skills, work experience or study. Students must also meet the English language proficiency requirements as below: IELTS 6.0 (academic) overall with no less than 5.5 in any band or any one of the below scores. TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE), TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60?(with a writing score of 20), PToE(Academic) score of 50. Cambridge English Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill OET at Grade C in all sub-tests. NZCEL3 Expiring Current - Level 4 (Academic), City and Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 66, Language Cert - C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with PASS.
