The Major in Economics Module, by itself, can be either a 3 or 4 year Degree. The Economics Major can be combined with a Major in another subject in order to create an Honors Double Major Degree. For the purposes of progression and graduation, ALL Honors Economics courses taken shall be counted as principal courses, and the requirements for both majors must be met in order to graduate with an Honors Double Major.

Main campus students enrolled in a Major may not enroll in any honors level economics courses at an affiliated college; even if the course is not offered on main campus (special permission is not granted under any circumstances). Also, students enrolled at an affiliated college may not enroll in honors economic courses on main campus.

Progression in these modules will be assessed in May. Those who have not met the requirements at that time will have their registration changed.

Students planning to do graduate work in Economics, after completing an Honors Double Major Degree, are advised to consult the Department before selecting courses. Students are also advised to take intermediate to advanced Math courses as part of their electives in order to be competitive when applying to graduate school.

Scholarship eligibility is affected if courses are dropped. Students must have five full courses in the current year as well as in the previous year of study (summer courses are excluded).

Completion of first-year requirements, including the following 1.5 courses with an average of at least 70% and with no mark less than 60%: Economics 1021A/B and 1022A/B, or the former Economics 1020; and Calculus 1000A/B, or Calculus 1500A/B or the former Calculus 1100A/B. (Engineering students and Science students may substitute Economics 2001A/B, and Applied Math 1413A/B (Engineering only).

Applicants must complete the full International Baccalaureate Diploma including each of the following to be considered for admission: Completion of the entire Diploma including the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay; Passes in a minimum of 6 subjects of which 3 must be at the Higher Level; A minimum grade total of 28 including points awarded for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge; No mark less than 4 on any individual course; Prerequisites for your program as specified by Western. Other English Language Requirements accepted: Minimum score required on the TOEFL is 550 on the paper based with a 5 on the TWE, and 83 on the internet-based tests with no score below 20; Pearson Test of English Academic: A minimum overall score of 58 is required with no score less than 56; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): A minimum overall score of 80 is required with no score less than 78; International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with no part less than 6.0; CanTEST: A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required with no part less than 4.0; CAEL: A minimum overall score of 60 is required with no part less than 60.
