You can either go straight into the 3-year degree and focus on Maori, Samoan, Cook Island and New Zealand contemporary dance, or enter into the 3rd year after completing one of the 2-year diplomas on this page (Maori and Pacific Dance, Commercial Dance, Drama or Musical Theatre).

About the course

Develop a body of work: Dance, Drama, Musical Theatre: If you’ve completed a two-year Performing Arts diploma, you can gain the Bachelor of Creativity (Performing Arts) degree with a further one year’s study. You’ll develop a body of work in your specialisation. Learn more about creative collaboration and building a career in the creative industries. Specialise in Maori and Pacific Dance, Commercial Dance, Drama or Musical Theatre.

Maori and Pacific Dance: In the first two years you'll develop a strong base in Maori, Samoa, Cook Islands and New Zealand contemporary dance performance, and build strengths in technique, performance and choreography. In the third year, you build on the knowledge they have acquired to create and perform an original body of work.

You'll do core courses as well as the following topics: Samoa dance performance, Maori dance performance, Cook Islands dance performance, New Zealand contemporary dance performance, Costuming for performance, Audition technique.

Performing Arts Auditions: Auditions for our performing arts programmes are held towards the end of the year. They usually involve workshops or group classes as well as some individual demonstration.

Applicants must have a tertiary level qualification. The minimum performance levels for admission are: IELTS - 6.0 overall with no sub-score less than 5.5, TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20), Cambridge English Test - FCE with a pass at Grade B, Pearson Test of English (Academic) PTE - PToE (Academic) score of 50, New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) - Level 4 with the Academic endorsement.
